» Wedding Centerpiece
By Dina Battle | Published 09/18/2010 | Confetti | Unrated

If you are planning to have a seated dinner reception following your wedding you will need to make plans for a wedding centerpiece. A wedding centerpiece is generally placed not only on the head table where the bride and groom is seated, but on the guest tables as well. If you opt to use fresh flowers, this can easily run up the cost of your wedding centerpiece, especially if you use exotic or out of season flowers. Because of this many brides look for ways to still have a beautiful wedding centerpiece without having to stretch their budget.

One way to cut down on the cost is to make your wedding centerpieces yourself. When you have a florist create them, not only is there the cost of the supplies involved but also a labor charge for the florist’s time, skill and expertise. There are a number ways you can learn to arrange flowers and still have gorgeous floral wedding centerpieces without the expensive price tag.

Many continuing education classes are offered at local colleges and universities on such diverse subjects as cake decorating and flower arranging. Through one of these classes you can learn how to make all kinds of flower arrangements including centerpieces, topiaries and even bouquets. It will be your decision whether you want to use silk or fresh flowers. Another way to learn about flower arranging is to purchase or check out a book on the subject. Usually pictures and step by step instructions are provided so that you can easily learn this craft.

While most wedding centerpieces are floral in nature, you need not stick with flowers. If you are having a themed wedding you could just as easily incorporate the theme of your wedding into your wedding centerpiece ideas. Seashells are great for a beach or island themed wedding and if you look around you can find inexpensive miniature castles and carriages that would be great for a fairy tale wedding. Whatever type of themed wedding centerpiece you ultimately decide upon, you can easily find all the materials you need at a craft or discount store.

One nice idea is to create your wedding centerpiece in such a way that it can be presented to special members of your wedding party or to the honored guests. You might think about creating a wedding centerpiece that breaks away into individual bouquets or even use scented candles that guests can take home with them as wedding guest favors. Votive holders are quite inexpensive and when you buy scented candles in bulk lots, they are usually cheap as well.

If you’re having trouble finding wedding centerpiece ideas you can find a ton of them on the internet as well as in bridal planning magazines and books. A number of do it yourself television programs are now focused on weddings and you can pick up some great ideas there as well.
When designing your wedding centerpiece keep in mind that it isn’t the amount of money that you spend, but the thought and creativity that you put into it that matters.

» Confetti & Fireworks
By Cynthia M. | Published 03/6/2006 | Confetti | Unrated
Confetti and fireworks are synonymous with celebration, happiness and good times. With that in mind, it’s only natural that both would find their place at a wedding or other special occasion.

Confetti is the safest option for celebration because it requires no permission, permits and there is no risk to anyone in the area. Tissue confetti is perfect for outdoor use because it is biodegradable, so it does not present any problems to the environment. Metallic confetti, however, is not biodegradable and should only be used indoors. Confetti is available in a variety of shapes and bright colors, so it’s fun for everyone to enjoy. Even children can partake in the festivities by tossing some confetti into the air. In addition, confetti is very easy on the budget because you get a lot of product for a little bit of money. Perhaps it will be used following the wedding ceremony, at the entrance to the reception or as the bride and groom leave for their honeymoon. Whatever the instance, there is no shortage of uses for this fun little product.

Fireworks are a common occurrence at many events, including New Years Eve and other happy occasions. In order to have them at your wedding or other special event, you must first make sure that they are legal in your area. If they are, purchase only those that meet the safety standards set forth by your local and state laws and regulations. You can learn more about fireworks law by calling your local police or fire department. It’s important to follow the instructions on the label to avoid injury or other mishaps. Select a location that does not have dry leaves, grass or an abundance of twigs as this could cause a fire hazard. In addition, make sure to have a supply of water nearby at all times.

It’s a good idea to begin shopping for either confetti or fireworks within several months of the wedding ceremony. If you would prefer to hire someone to display the fireworks, ask about retaining their services for your special day. You probably won’t want to have anyone in the wedding party or guest list doing this, so it’s a good idea to hire someone who is qualified and knowledgeable in handling these types of displays. Be sure to find out if any permits are required prior to such displays and always work them in so that they are not distracting to the neighborhood, such as late night hours.

You can order confetti through most online party supply stores or purchase it locally at a department or craft store. If you wish to hand out confetti packets to all of your wedding guests, simply create a small bag using lace or by purchasing a drawstring bag in the craft section at a local store. Fill each with confetti and pass them out amongst wedding guests. Fireworks should only be purchased through reputable dealers and must be legal for the state in which they are purchased. Never use homemade fireworks or anything that is not properly labeled with instructions and certification information.
