» Unique Locations for Your Wedding
By dan keohane | Published 12/4/2011 | Choosing The Wedding Location | Rating:

One of the biggest questions you’ll need to decide on for your wedding is where to have it. Choosing the location for your wedding can be quite a challenge sometimes. Many just don’t want to pick the typical catering hall or everyday place. They want somewhere that is a bit unusual or unique – just like them. That’s when you start to look at unique locations that aren’t always chosen for a wedding.

Historic landmarks top the list as favorite places that are unique for weddings. Some will say they are available and others are available but don’t advertise it – you have to ask someone about it. If you are passionate about history this can be an ideal choice. Look into some of your favorite locations. In some historic landmarks catering may be offered as they may do weddings often.

An aquarium is a very unique place to have a wedding. But in some ways watching those fish glide by in the water can be quite romantic. If you and the groom have a love of the ocean and related science this can be a lovely choice. Many aquariums are open for special events. You may need to be a member of the aquarium.

Your favorite restaurant is another excellent choice. The restaurant you had your first date or the place he proposed could be a great choice as the place to hold a wedding. Getting married in a pizza place is something unique and different – not everyone is going to do it. But you do want your wedding to express your personal style and originality.

A park is another great choice for your wedding. Some parks are available for public events and you’ll need to pay a fee to hold an event or just register your event. Check ahead of time. Many parks are simply beautiful so this choice is ideal for most seasons.

» Wedding Food and Catering
By David Gruber | Published 07/6/2011 | Wedding Cakes | Unrated

Wedding is the most important day of your life. Everything should be the way it should be. Needless to say, everything should be perfect. And since this is the day everyone should remember, why not make everybody remember it not only through the vows you have made, but the food your guests have eaten.

You might find that there are a lot of rules and regulations when it comes to dining etiquette and which food you need to serve for specific guests. But, it all comes down to you and your plan to satisfy both yourself and your guests. Here you will learn a few tricks on how and what to do with your wedding food and basically have the right budget for it while getting everybody the food they want to eat.

1. Caterers - You can ask your friends and family for caterers that have done business with them before. Were they satisfied with the food and the services being rendered? Once you have that list, you can check them out personally and see if they are up to your expectations. You can visit their websites and check out a few comments or so. You can even visit their office and ask around if they have different services and see if their services fit your standards.

2. Budget - The most important thing you should remember is keeping in mind your budget. You need to have good idea on how much you would want to spend on food for your guests. There are a lot of ways to save money on food and still provide a good taste of food choices for your guests.

3. Diet - You need to make sure that your food is comptabile with the type of guests you have. Have a mini survey on your guests on who are vegetarians or lactose intolerant or if some guests would prefer not to eat pork or beef.

4. Style - Since you have your theme on your wedding, why not carry the entire theme onto your dinner party? If your wedding is somewhat formal, then you should continue on with some formal dinner after the wedding.

5. Add-ons - Since the wedding usually takes place the entire day, make sure your guests are attended to. Place some finger foods and some few drinks. You can add cocktails or simple drinks for that matter.

6. If you are really on a budget, why not make your wedding cake your dessert? Have them sliced up once the ceremony is done and have them served for your guests.

One of the most successful wedding ceremonies are those with happy and contented guests. You can do so by providing them good food.

» Bridesmaid 101 for Every New Bride
By Debbie Spurlock | Published 01/13/2011 | 10 Popular Bridesmaid Gifts | Rating:

While many brides get excited about their weddings, they don’t think very much about having problems with their bridesmaids. But most bridesmaids do have trouble managing their bridesmaids. Asking your friends to help you with one of the most important days of your life often puts a bit of pressure on your friendship. Knowing how to manage your bridesmaids and still be good to your friends is an important skill every bride should have.

Your bridesmaids are not unpaid personal assistants. Bridal magazines and television shows may joke about Diva Brides but acting too much like a diva is likely to have your bridesmaid in an uproar. Your bridesmaids often have jobs, personal lives, families and other obligations in addition to helping with your wedding. You can’t expect bridesmaids to be at your beck and call.

Choose bridesmaid tasks that compliment each of their skills. Likely you know your bridesmaids well. You know your sister Janice is good with numbers and your friend Nancy is a decorating wizard. Use these abilities when choosing wedding tasks. Don’t put Nancy in charge of calling vendors for pricing information. Put her in charge of visiting florists and picking out the flowers.

Manage your own stress so your bridesmaid relationships are healthy. Your bridesmaids likely want to be there to support and nurture you. But they can’t do it all. The bride who doesn’t sleep properly, eat healthy or take care of herself is doing a great disservice. She’s not taking proper care of herself and expecting others to do the basics for her when she won’t even do them herself.

Hold a “Thank You” event for your bridesmaids. This can be a lunch, brunch or Girls Night Out. Whatever you think your bridesmaids would appreciate and whatever you can budget for. But do something to thank your bridesmaids for their hard work on your wedding. And simply to hang out and have fun. Isn’t that why you chose them to be your bridesmaids?

» Wedding Centerpiece
By Dina Battle | Published 09/18/2010 | Confetti | Unrated

If you are planning to have a seated dinner reception following your wedding you will need to make plans for a wedding centerpiece. A wedding centerpiece is generally placed not only on the head table where the bride and groom is seated, but on the guest tables as well. If you opt to use fresh flowers, this can easily run up the cost of your wedding centerpiece, especially if you use exotic or out of season flowers. Because of this many brides look for ways to still have a beautiful wedding centerpiece without having to stretch their budget.

One way to cut down on the cost is to make your wedding centerpieces yourself. When you have a florist create them, not only is there the cost of the supplies involved but also a labor charge for the florist’s time, skill and expertise. There are a number ways you can learn to arrange flowers and still have gorgeous floral wedding centerpieces without the expensive price tag.

Many continuing education classes are offered at local colleges and universities on such diverse subjects as cake decorating and flower arranging. Through one of these classes you can learn how to make all kinds of flower arrangements including centerpieces, topiaries and even bouquets. It will be your decision whether you want to use silk or fresh flowers. Another way to learn about flower arranging is to purchase or check out a book on the subject. Usually pictures and step by step instructions are provided so that you can easily learn this craft.

While most wedding centerpieces are floral in nature, you need not stick with flowers. If you are having a themed wedding you could just as easily incorporate the theme of your wedding into your wedding centerpiece ideas. Seashells are great for a beach or island themed wedding and if you look around you can find inexpensive miniature castles and carriages that would be great for a fairy tale wedding. Whatever type of themed wedding centerpiece you ultimately decide upon, you can easily find all the materials you need at a craft or discount store.

One nice idea is to create your wedding centerpiece in such a way that it can be presented to special members of your wedding party or to the honored guests. You might think about creating a wedding centerpiece that breaks away into individual bouquets or even use scented candles that guests can take home with them as wedding guest favors. Votive holders are quite inexpensive and when you buy scented candles in bulk lots, they are usually cheap as well.

If you’re having trouble finding wedding centerpiece ideas you can find a ton of them on the internet as well as in bridal planning magazines and books. A number of do it yourself television programs are now focused on weddings and you can pick up some great ideas there as well.
When designing your wedding centerpiece keep in mind that it isn’t the amount of money that you spend, but the thought and creativity that you put into it that matters.

» Are There Benefits to Shopping for Wedding Invitations Online?
By Sara Haese | Published 06/19/2010 | Invitations | Unrated
Shopping for wedding invitations online is just one of the ways that the internet has become a great tool for couples in their wedding planning. Today's lives are hectic enough without the added stress of planning one of the most important days of your life. That's where online wedding resources come in handy for saving precious time and sometimes even money.

There are many advantages to shopping for your wedding invitations online including:
  • Convenience - Anywhere you have internet access you can shop day or night, when it fits your schedule.
  • Choices - There are many, many websites that offer online shopping for your wedding invites so be sure to give yourself plenty of time so you can leisurely do your browsing and do some comparison shopping.
  • Quick Sorting - For those who already know what they may be looking for when it comes to color, theme, cost, style, paper, etc., quick searches can be simply performed on all sorts of specifics.
  • Verses - You can easily find an invitation verse fitting to your wedding with all the selections available online.
  • Online Preview - Many websites provide a viewable invitation preview once you have entered all your personalized verse information so you can verify that the details are correct. Many times you can also view your chosen ink color, lettering style and font size along with your wording.
  • Preview Email Option - Sharing your online preview via email may be an option and comes in handy for having friends and family share their thoughts as well as assist in the proofing.
  • Delivery - Having your wedding invitations delivered directly to you means you don't have to pick them up.
  • Order Status - Upon ordering, you will be given a confirmation number that you may be able to use for tracking your order status if the vendor provides that service. Once the order has shipped, you should also be able to track its delivery time if provided with a tracking number.
Some might say a drawback of shopping for your wedding invitations online is that you are unable to see the paper and design in-person before ordering. A simple solution is to order samples of your favorite designs so you can narrow down your choices, even if they are blank. Starting early with your online wedding invitation shopping is sure to provide plenty of time for ordering samples, proofing and shipping of your final order.

As you can see, ordering your wedding invitations online can have many benefits, but it is ultimately your decision based on what makes you feel comfortable.

» Quick Tips for a Great Bridal Shower
By dan keohane | Published 11/2/2010 | Bridal Shower Etiquette | Unrated

It's no secret that every bride dreams of her bridal shower. This special time is spent with family and friends, celebrating the moment a bride chooses to wed that wonderful man in her life. A bridal shower has long been a way to prepare a young woman for married life. From the very practical – of giving her gifts such as a blender or a quilt for her new home – to those time honored words of wisdom that will help get her through the sweet and sometimes bitter times of married life. But best of all, a bridal shower is a great time to gather with your new family members such as your mother in law and sister in law and simply to have fun. A little "girl time" together!

But planning a bridal shower can often be stressful. There are so many details and everyone wants the bridal shower to be perfect. We'll let you in on some great tips here that make planning any bridal shower easy and well organized. Don't stress or worry about planning that bridal shower. Just follow our guidelines and you'll soon be enjoying that great bridal shower with the bride and family and friends.

Always remember that time is on your side. The more time you have, the more advantages you have. When you've got short notice you have less options. Try to give yourself as much time as possible to plan a bridal shower. This means when the bride announces her engagement start planning the bridal shower if you can. Even if you just outline what you'd like to do – then you are way ahead of the game. The ladies who wait and wait are the ones who will be sadly mistaken that things will be easy. Locations and food get more expensive when you only have short notice. You also often have far less choices. So do your best to have as much time as possible if you can.

Try to narrow down the location of the bridal shower first. This is often one of the hardest things you'll do. Holding a bridal shower at someone's home can be a great choice or even at a local restaurant. Gather the group of ladies planning the bridal shower and plan the shower for the ideal location. Choose among the dates available. Once you have the date available then start sending out invitations. You can use an online invitation service that will easily manage the invitations. Remember that sometimes these invitations wind up in the Junk Mail filter so you should call someone if they don't respond within a week. Assume the invitation got lost in their email box. Getting confirmations that people are coming helps you move onto the next step – planning the food.

Food can often be expensive for bridal showers if you don't quite know how to plan. Many women get overwhelmed and simply call a caterer. You can do a lot of your bridal shower ordering from your local grocery store if you are willing to delegate and organize responsibilities. But this does mean that someone will have to pick up the cake, pasta salad or other food items. Decide if your group is open to these choices. Otherwise work with a caterer to get food cooked and brought to the home.

Decorating can be a lot of work. Most bridal showers you do the decorating yourself. You actually don't have to do a lot. Add some bouquets of fresh flowers and some bunches of balloons and any location you choose will seem charming and well decorated. Compliment the location you choose. If it is modern, choose modern styled flower arrangements. If it is old fashioned, choose classic flower arrangements.

Delegation is actually the biggest tip we can give you. One of the most frustrating things that will happen with a bridal shower is that one or two people wind up doing all of the work. If you divide the responsibilities then things will go much smoother. The challenge is that most bridesmaids and bridal parties don't quite know how to divide things. The best way is to go according to people's strongest skills. The one with an artistic eye should be in charge of decorating. The one with business skills should be in charge of the budget. And so on. You'll have a beautiful bridal shower the bride will always remember!

» Planning Wedding Guests List – What to Do?
By dan keohane | Published 06/17/2010 | Invitations | Unrated

Planning and narrowing down a wedding guests list and finalizing it in the end can be one of the most daunting task to perform when planning about wedding party reception or ceremony. It gets very difficult and tight when you have to reduce the number of the guests, in order to get everything covered within your allotted budget for the wedding. It does not matter if it is 500 people that you are inviting or only 50, you would always have to reduce the numbers in order to meet your limitations. In the following passages, I will highlight some important things to do while planning wedding guests list.

Firstly, you must have a clear idea about your limitations. Prior to even mentioning names make sure you have a clear number in mind of how many people can attend your wedding. Start planning wedding guests list considering your limitations and once you find you have reached your limit, stop adding names of guests in your wedding guests list.

Secondly, do not add the names of the people in your wedding guests list who are not close to you. For instance, you had a high school friend but you have not had a word with him in years then what is the use of inviting him? Skip it. You can safely avoid all such people who were not in your contact since years. For reducing the number of people even more, you can make your wedding guests list adults only list. Reducing your guests list to a certain number can be easily done by eliminating children from the list and making your wedding an adults only reception. Doing this would have a positive effect on your budget and more room can be made for the people who you really want to invite at the wedding reception or ceremony.

Finally, prepare two separate wedding guests list. What I mean here is the first list should be having the names of the guests that you surely want to invite at your wedding, while second list will have the names of people that you would like to invite but it would not make a big difference if you don’t invite them. This way, you can easily compare both the lists in order to make changes within the suitable time limit because you don’t want to leave any person whom you really want to attend your wedding reception or ceremony.

» Invitation Tips for your wedding
By Kim Lapp | Published 10/11/2006 | Invitations | Unrated

Tips to make your wedding invitations the most memorable wedding invitations. From who should get invited to what's best to add to the invitation for decoration.

  1. People over eighteen years of age get their own invitation
  2. Allow plenty of RSVP time (about eight weeks).
  3. Make sure the stamps are properly affixed to the response card. Otherwise you will get delayed or no responses from those guests.
  4. Make sure all maps, menu choice cards, reception cards and extras are included in the envelopes before sealing.
  5. If hiring a calligrapher, just give her the envelopes to work on, no all the elements of the invitations package.
  6. Be sure you know your guests' true titles. Example, if someone is a doctor, address his envelope to Dr. and Mrs. Brown. (lawyers are esquire, military ranking (Captain), Ministers, veterinarians ect.).
  7. Double check to postage to mail your invitations. Take it to a post office and have them weigh the envelope with all the enclosures inside.
  8. Use stamps with 'Love' or flowers on them will decorate the invitations.
  9. Print maps and directions yourself in a coordinating paper.
  10. Skip envelope liners and other extras.
  11. Remember to find your wedding invitations on-line. The great advantage is the turn around time compared to a brick and mortar store. Production time for your cheap wedding invitations can be as fast as 2 days. Once you find the invitation you are interested in, you are able to order the invitation, the invitation envelopes, the lined invitation envelopes, reply cards, reception cards and matching thank you's at the same time. Wedding invitation wording is offered on the personalization page for your invitations when you place your order.
